Dining tables, benches, desks and beds built from solid hardwood to your size, style and finish, made to be handed down.
Some pieces of furniture become part of a family. A dining table that seats everyone, a desk that fits the room or a bed that is solid enough never to creak is worth building properly. Custom work lets you choose the species, the dimensions and the details that stock furniture cannot match.
We design with you, mill solid hardwood boards, join them with traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon, dovetails and breadboard ends, sand carefully and finish with oil, lacquer or hardwax for a surface that is beautiful and durable. We account for wood movement so tops stay flat through the seasons. We usually begin by measuring the room, the doorways it must pass through and the chairs or benches that will go with it. Then we build a scale mock-up or sketch, so the final piece fits the space and the people who will sit around it.
Walnut is rich and dark, white oak is strong and handsome, maple is clean and pale and cherry darkens over time. We bring samples so you can feel and compare them.
Wood expands and contracts with humidity, and good furniture allows for it. Proper joinery and attachment methods keep tops flat and joints tight.
Dining tables take heat, spills and wear. We apply finishes that protect without looking plastic, and show you how to care for them.
Solid wood changes with the seasons. Use felt pads, coasters and a refreshing coat of finish when it looks dry.
